This glossary highlights key terms used in the documentation, framed within the context of the Farsight platform and its components. The selection is not exhaustive but aims to clarify concepts for users engaging with the software.

| Archive | A portable snapshot of a Workspace. Used for backup, transfer, or replication between Farsight instances. |
| Audited | A feature that tracks changes to fields for accountability or verification purposes. |
| Auth Provider | An authentication provider integrated with Farsight. Allows users to log in using third-party credentials. |
| Batch | In Platform: A package of documents grouped for assignment to reviewers.In Processing: A subset of processed documents within a Case. |
| Batch Set | A collection of batches, used to organize and manage document review workflows. |
| Case | A project or matter within the Processing Application. |
| Case Sensitivity | A search setting to define whether there is a distinction between uppercase and lowercase letters or if both are treated the same. |
| Choice | Value associated to choice field types that allows users to select from a predefined list of options (e.g., Relevant, Not Relevant). |
| Client | An organization or entity within the Farsight platform that represents a customer or collaborator. |
| Coding | The act of assigning values to fields during review e.g. marking a document as ‘Relevant’ or ‘Not Relevant’. |
| Conditional Search | Filtering documents based on metadata or field values. |
| Container | File format with the primary purpose of storing more granular records e.g. ZIP or PST archive. |
| Conversion | The process of transforming native files (e.g., messages, pictures) into a standardized and accessible format (e.g. PDF). |
| CSV | Comma-Separated Values, a file format used to store tabular data (e.g., lists of documents, metadata). |
| Custodian | An individual or entity whose data is collected for review. |
| DAT | A file format commonly used for load files, containing metadata and references to extracted documents. |
| Duplicate Spare | A duplicate that can be excluded from review because its content is already captured in another copy of the message. |
| eDiscovery Bridge | A standalone tool for importing previously processed data into the Farsight platform. |
| Extension | A modular add-on that extends the functionality of the Farsight platform (e.g., eDiscovery Extension, Threading Extension). |
| Extractor Application | A tool used to create or expand cases, extract metadata, and prepare data for import into the Farsight platform. |
| Export | The process of downloading metadata or documents from Farsight in a specific format or packages (e.g., PDF, CSV, ZIP) for external use or disclosure. |
| Field Types | Data types for attributes or metadata associated with objects e.g., text, choice, multi-choice, date. |
| Fuzziness | A search feature allowing matches for terms with minor variations like typos or alternate spellings. |
| Group | A collection of users with shared permissions, linked to Workspaces and ACPs. |
| Highlight | A visual marker which is manually applied during document review to indicate key sections. |
| Highlighting | Visual markers applied to documents by Search Term Reports to indicate the positions of search hits. |
| Inclusive | A representative document in a conversation thread that contains distinct content (body or attachment) which is not duplicated along other inclusive messages. |
| Index Search | A full-text search of document content provided by a specific Search Index. |
| Info-Panel | A sidebar in the Document Viewer displaying previews, highlights, markups, or related documents. |
| Instance | A specific deployment of the Farsight platform. |
| Invite | A link or process to invite new users to register and access the Farsight platform. |
| Layout | A customizable form in Farsight that displays fields for reference and enables reviewers to code documents. |
| Load File | A structured file generated with processing, containing metadata and references to extracted documents. |
| Mapping | The process of linking fields in a load file to corresponding fields in Farsight during data import. |
| Markup Set | A layer of annotations applied to documents and presented as Highlights or Redactions. |
| Mass Actions | Bulk operations (e.g., mass conversion, mass export, mass update) applied to multiple documents or records. |
| Metadata | Descriptive information about a document (e.g., author, date created, file type), extracted during processing. |
| Native File | The original file for a document (e.g. EML, DOCX), as opposed to a converted or imaged format. |
| Object Definition | A template defining the structure of data objects (e.g., Documents) in a Workspace, including custom fields and metadata. |
| Operator | Symbol or word used in Index based searches to combine or exclude terms (e (e.g. AND, OR, *). |
| Overlay | A process to update or enrich existing documents in Farsight with additional metadata from a load file. |
| Processing | The stage where raw data is expanded, metadata is extracted, and files are prepared for loading into the eDiscovery platform. |
| Production | The final output of responsive documents, prepared for disclosure to opposing parties or regulators. |
| Production Group | A set of documents grouped for production, with shared settings. |
| Redaction | The coverage or obscuring of sensitive information from documents before production. |
| Relational | A field property indicating that the value links records to related items (e.g., emails in a thread, attachments to a parent document). |
| Review | The process of evaluating documents in specific context e.g. for relevance or privilege. |
| Regular Expressions | Advanced patterns for searching text using Index Search. |
| Role | A permission scheme defining what user of specific groups can manage at platform level. |
| Saved Query | A predefined search that can be saved and reused to quickly filter and retrieve specific sets of records. |
| Search Term Report | A report tracking the occurrence of specific terms or phrases in a given document population while using a specific Search Index. |
| Self Registration | The process where users register themselves using a link sent via email, without requiring administrator intervention. |
| Source Data | Original files or data (e.g., PSTs, loose files) that are processed to create a load file. |
| Tag | A label applied to documents (e.g., ‘Relevant,’ ‘Privileged’) to categorize or flag them during review. |
| Text Recognition | A generalized approach to acquire additional text from documents by applying optical character recognition (OCR) or sound/speech transcription according to the underlying file type. |
| Threading | The grouping of individual messages into conversations with integrated analysis for duplicate content. |
| Transcript | Text representation of video and audio files generated through speech and sound recognition. |
| Unique | A field option to enforce uniqueness of stored values. |
| Wildcards | Symbols used in searches to substitute unknown characters (e.g., plan* matches ‘plan,’ ‘plans,’ ‘planning’). |
| View | A customizable display of records in Farsight, defining which fields are shown, how records are filtered, and their sort order. |
| Viewer | The interface for viewing, annotating, and coding documents. |
| Workspace | A virtual container in Farsight that segregates data, users, and workflows for a specific project or matter. |
